Belt
“From darkness to light”

Artistic inspiration

This belt is inspired by the shared human experience during times of crisis and change. The embroidered phrase “FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT” (”ВІД ПІТЬМИ ДО СВІТЛА” – ukr. version) reflects the collective emotional journey that many people are undergoing today. This piece explores the idea of transition – from fear and destruction to hope and healing. It is a symbol of inner strength and the human capacity to move forward, even in difficult times. Through this work, I illustrate how textiles can carry meaning and become a space for reflection, memory, and resilience.

The process

This piece was created using weaving and hand-embroidery techniques. The belt is made from a blend of cotton and fabric thread. To create a shimmering effect in the dark, Anna added silver-colored lurex thread. Kateryna focused on a clear font and strong contrast to make the ettering stand out and be expressive. This process required time, precision, and attention to detail. One of the challenges was maintaining the balance and readability of the text while working with textiles.
